Inside Wash & Health
Safe drinking
water, sanitation and hygiene are important to human health. The world has
witnessed the impact of COVID-19, which is preventable with good sanitation and
hygiene. Currently in Karonga, there is an outbreak of cholera which is another
worrying health issue in the country. To counter COVID-19, cholera, polio, and
other health issues, we need collaborated efforts especially by us the youths.
This why Mtuli Foundation mobilizes the youths to discuss and respond to health
concerns such as carrying out public places cleanup campaigns, advocating for
good health practices to curtail pandemics and mobilize resources for health
facilities that are overwhelmed. A healthy youth community is a productive
youth community. Together we can eliminate polio, COVID-19 and Cholera in
Karonga and Malawi at large.
Major Activities
Donation of Nebulizers
The MTULI Foundation recently donated nebulizers to the Mpata Rural Health Center, a critical medical facility serving the Mpata community in Malawi. Nebulizers are essential medical equipment used to deliver respiratory medication to patients with lung conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pneumonia. This donation is a significant milestone for the community, which is struggling with limited access to healthcare resources for many years…..
The MTULI Foundation as a non-profit organization committed to empowering communities in Malawi through various initiatives, including healthcare, education, and community development. The Foundation’s donation of nebulizers to the Mpata Rural Health Center is part of their ongoing efforts to improve access to healthcare in underserved areas.
The donation of nebulizers to the Mpata Rural Health Center is a significant step forward in improving respiratory care in the community. The equipment will enable the health center to provide respiratory treatments to patients with lung conditions, which is especially critical given the current global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The nebulizers will also be used to treat children with acute respiratory infections, a common cause of childhood mortality in Malawi.
The MTULI Foundation’s commitment to improving access to healthcare in underserved communities is commendable. Through our Special Needs project and other initiatives, we are providing vital support to vulnerable populations, including individuals with disabilities and those living in poverty. Our efforts to improve access to medical equipment and resources like nebulizers are making a real difference in the lives of people in Mpata and other communities in Malawi.
Combat Against Cholera Outbreak
In early this year , 2023, Malawi was hit hard by a cholera outbreak, a highly contagious water-borne disease that spreads rapidly in areas with poor sanitation and hygiene. The MTULI Foundation, as a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering communities in Malawi, took an initiative to help reduce the ….
spread of the outbreak by supporting several secondary schools with hygiene supplies in the northern region of the country. With the support of its partners, the Foundation provided schools with soap, baskets, mops, and sweepers to promote good hygiene practices and prevent the spread of cholera.Cholera is a preventable disease that can be controlled through basic sanitation and hygiene practices, such as handwashing with soap and clean water, using hygienic toilets, and proper disposal of waste. Unfortunately, many communities in Malawi lack access to basic sanitation and hygiene facilities, putting them at high risk of contracting cholera and other water-borne diseases. The MTULI Foundation recognized the urgent need to address this issue and took swift action to support the affected communities.
Through its Cholera Prevention project, the MTULI Foundation provided hygiene supplies to secondary schools in the northern region of Malawi, where the cholera outbreak was most severe. The Foundation’s intervention aimed to promote good hygiene practices among school students, who could act as agents of change in their communities by disseminating hygiene education and practices to their families and neighbors.
The MTULI Foundation’s initiative to support cholera prevention in Malawi is commendable. The Foundation’s efforts to promote hygiene education and provide hygiene supplies to schools will help prevent the spread of cholera and other water-borne diseases, ultimately improving the health and well-being of communities in the northern region of Malawi. We encourage other organizations and individuals to support the Foundation’s initiatives and work together towards creating a healthier and more resilient Malawi.
