Cholera is a highly contagious bacterial disease that can cause severe diarrhea and dehydration, and it can be fatal if left untreated. Unfortunately, Malawi has been severely hit by the impact of cholera, which has killed nearly 2,000 people since October 2022 and Karonga district was not spared. The situation has become alarming, and the need for action is more critical than ever.

In the fight against cholera, the Mtuli Foundation has taken the initiative to donate hand washing equipment, cleaning equipment and chemicals, and gloves to Mpata Rural Health Center. The foundation has been on the forefront in championing for good hygiene practices and the importance of clean water supply in the district.

The hand washing equipment provided by the Mtuli Foundation includes soap dispensers, buckets, and hand towels. These facilities are essential in promoting regular hand washing, which is the most effective way to prevent the spread of cholera. The foundation has also donated cleaning equipment and chemicals that will help the health center to maintain a clean and healthy environment for patients.

In addition to providing hand washing equipment, the foundation has been advocating for the importance of clean water supply. The foundation has been working with the local communities to develop sustainable solutions to the water problem in the district. By engaging with the communities, the foundation aims to promote the construction of water wells and boreholes to provide clean and safe water for domestic use.

The Mtuli Foundation has also been working closely with the Mpata Rural Health Center to develop and implement cholera prevention and control measures. The foundation has been providing training to health workers on how to diagnose and treat cholera cases. In addition, the foundation has been advocating for the importance of vaccination against cholera and has been working with the health center to promote vaccination campaigns in the district.
