The SICDE (Support for and Integration of Children with Disabilities in Education.) Team recently conducted a workshop at the Mwabi MACOHA (Malawi Council for the Handicapped) center, teaching parents and guardians how to create sitting assistive devices for their children with disabilities.
The devices were made from locally sourced resources, allowing the parents and guardians to create affordable and effective solutions for their children’s needs. The workshop aimed to empower the parents and guardians to become actively involved in improving the quality of life for their children with disabilities.
During the workshop, the SICDE Team provided step-by-step instructions on how to create the sitting assistive devices, as well as hands-on training to ensure that everyone could create them correctly. The devices were designed to provide additional support and comfort to children who struggle with sitting independently, allowing them to sit up and engage with the world around them.
By providing these devices to the children, the SICDE Team hopes to help them become more independent and self-sufficient. Additionally, by empowering the parents and guardians to create these devices themselves, they are able to save money and resources, as well as gain a sense of accomplishment and pride in their ability to provide for their children
